  • Winter Walk Day at Holy Family Catholic School On January 19, members of the Indigenous Education team joined community partner Beedahbin Peltier, to participate in a school-wide Winter Walk Day at Holy Family Catholic School in Beaverton. Students in Kindergarten and Grade 1 took part in an outdoor story walk around the school grounds, related to the book Be a Good Ancestor by Gabrielle Prince and Leona Prince.
  • St. Mary Musical Theatre presents "High School Musical Jr" (Feb 8th, 9th and 10th) St. Mary Musical Theatre is back with this year’s production of Disney’s “High School Musical Jr”! In this one-hour musical, the students of East High battle the pressures to conform to the status quo as they struggle with change, love, and identity in their journey to discover the limitless possibilities of life on the precipice of adulthood.
  • St. Anne's Grade 6 Students Explore Indigenous Ways of Knowing On January 15, Trent University's TRACKS (Trent Aboriginal Cultural Knowledge and Science) program visited Grade 6 classes at St. Anne Catholic School.
  • Staff Training on Human Rights and Equity Principles In promoting a whole school approach to safe, equitable, inclusive, and welcoming schools that enable students to reach their full potential, we engaged in capacity building for staff on human rights and equity principles, to equip board employees to identify and address racism and other forms of discrimination that violate the Ontario Human Rights Code (the Code). Senior Administration, school administrators, facilities services, management, professional staff, and support staff received training in the 2023-2024 school year.

  • Equity Invitational Learning Series - Session 2: The Role of Active Allyship in Dismantling Anti-Black Racism in Schools (January 16th 6:00 - 8:00pm) Equity Invitational Learning Series Durham Catholic District School Board (DCDSB), in partnership with its Anti-Black Racism and Black Excellence Advisory Committee, is pleased to continue the Equity Invitational Learning Series, focused on knowledge-sharing for identifying and removing barriers, and promoting improved student outcomes. There are three sessions within the series, each featuring a guest speaker presenting on a topic related to equity and achievement.
