Kindergarten Community Fair

Parents, caregivers and guardians are also invited to attend DCDSB’s Kindergarten Community Fair, where Board subject-matter experts and community partners will be on-hand to share information and answer questions related to starting your child’s educational journey.

Time: Drop in anytime between 5:00 – 7:30 p.m.

Location: All Saints Catholic Secondary School (3001 Country Ln, Whitby, ON)

Welcome to Kindergarten School Information Nights

Each elementary school within the board is hosting a Welcome to Kindergarten Information Night for registered students and their parents, guardians or caregivers.

This is an opportunity to tour the school, see the Kindergarten classrooms, meet the Kindergarten teachers and learn about what to expect when your child starts in September.

Navigating Kindergarten Zoom Series

During the 2022-2023 school year, families were invited to our Navigating Kindergarten Zoom Series, a live virtual parent/guardian series that prepared families and their children for Kindergarten. These sessions provided tips to ensure a year filled with growth and learning. These sessions were recorded to share relevant information with families for years to come. In response to the Ontario Human Rights Commission's Right to Read Report we will share how to use engaging activities to support your child at home in their literacy development.  Activities that promote phonemic awareness and letter sound correspondence will help instill a love of learning and literacy.

Learn about how to support your child’s needs in their transition to Kindergarten. This session will be focused on developing a greater awareness of some of the strategies and supports that help to build readiness skills. Parents/guardians will be provided with key information and resources to help navigate the school system through a special education lens.

This multi-disciplinary team will provide parents/guardians with a few practical tips and strategies to support their children’s preparedness for entry to Kindergarten. These strategies will cover the areas of language development, reading and math readiness, fine and gross motor skills, self-care, and social-emotional wellness.
